WHAT IS COLON CANCER?

Colon cancer mostly originate from a benign tumors known as adenomatous polyps, which grows on the inner lining of colon.
If colon polyps are not treated on time, these benign tumors may grow into malignant tumours and initiate cancer.

During the initial stages, the patient may experience no symptoms. But as the cancer keeps growing the following symptoms may be observed:

COLONOSCOPY
Colonoscopy is the most helpful diagnosis to look for any abnormalities or deformities on the inner lining of colon and rectum. In this procedure, a thin flexible cable called colonoscope is inserted through the colon to find presence of any polyp, tumor, ulcer or inflammation. Sample can also be collected during this procedure, called biopsy, to proceed for further treatment. Colonoscopy can also detect cancerous growth in rectum and colon.
